Scientists have recognized the Dingo as the oldest breed of dogs in the world

Researchers from the NeDingo the oldest breed of dogsw South Wales University have found that the Australian Dingo dog breed is one of the oldest in the world. The most ancient Dingo's skeleton found dates back more than five thousand years.

Alan Hilton, the author of that research, said that maybe the same ancient is only one breed - a New Guinea Singing Dog (another name - New Guinea Dingo), which was named so because of the fact that it can produce the sounds, that are reminiscent of birds or whales singing. Although this dog also makes all "traditional" dog sounds as well.

Alan Hilton also said that he was able to make this conclusions because of the discovered remains and DNA testing. This made it possible to claim that the Dingo came to Australia from Indonesia, and it happened five thousand years ago.

The very first Dingoes in Australia were probably former domestic dogs, who ran away or were left by their owners. This dogs made packs, that was helping them to hunt successfully and to survive in the wild. In Australia Dingoes found alomost perfect conditions for life - a lot of food, not much of a competitive species - so they became wide spread very fast.

The breed was saved unchanged thanks to the remote location of the continent. The researcher also noted that the closest genetic relatives of the Dingoes are the wild wolves. Among the most ancient dog breeds, scientists also name: the Chow Chow, the Akita, the Basenji, the Siberian Husky, the Shar Pei and the Alaskan Malamute.
