It is a very well known fact, that animals help to heal some diseases. Many hospitals in Europe as well as in the United States long time ago and quite successfully use this abilities of our four-legged friends.

Cats, dogs and horses are the most popular "doctors", that are helping many people allover the world to treat physical and mental disorders. It is also a scientifically proved fact, that just a presence of the beloved pet beside his owner is helping him to get better much faster. And in general people who have a cat or a dog in their house are healthier, than those, who live without any pets.

But now our furry companions are not only healing us. They studied how to diagnose our diseases.

In Great Britain, dogs began to diagnose patients. First, the animals studied how to identify some certain diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

Any disease has a peculiar odor, which does not change throughout the illness. Dogs are known to have a very sensitive noses, and therefore they can smell the signs of the disease at an earlier stage than it will be identified by the doctors.

The blood samples of different people are given to the dogs to sniff, and they, through their sense of smell, detect the presence of cancer cells or the exceeded rate of glucose in the blood. Management of the center, where these experiments were conducted, said that in 56 cases out of a hundred, dogs are able to properly determine whether there are cancer cells. This suggests that in many cases, dogs are able to help identify the disease early and prevent it's development.
