The noise, the explosions of firecrackers, screams and general bustle is scary for animals, but very often the cat owners are having fun and they simply do not notice it, not knowing that such a situation may cause their pet not only stress and nervous disorders, but also quite a serious illness! And if you do not want your cat to end up with a heart attack after the New Year party for example, you will have to prepare her for the holidays in advance.

 

What may happen to your cat?

 

During the busy holiday time veterinary clinics often simply can not cope with the influx of sick pets. Many of them suffer from a frightening noises outside the window, but there are a lot of other problems. Most often they are reduced to the following:

  • having fun the owners do not notice that there is something wrong with their cat;
  • no one is taking care of a sick animal or the owners decided that they will be fine without a doctor;
  • because of the stress there aggravated a chronic disease that it is developing very quickly;
  • the cat was injured (often pets can cut them paws on a broken Christmas toy, get under the feet of the guests, who may step on the cat's paw or drop something hot over her, many cats may simply fail to slip into a slamming door).

In addition, it is in the holiday time pets often fall out of the windows because they are not supervised, and this is true even in winter when the owner is opening all the windows in a house. As a result, a curious cat who does not understand why her owners still do not sleep and bustle, will find herself many adventures, which can result very sad for her.

Keeping this situation in mind, the cat owners should be ready for various events in advance. And here we suggest to follow several important rules.

How to protect your cat against diseases during the holidays?

First of all, even in the middle of fun you should check the state of your pet and make sure, that he (or she) is safe. If you can not provide the safe environment at home, try to think in advance, where you can put your cat, so she can rest in peace and quiet. Maybe you can provide a separate secure room where the animal will feel safe and still be able to find food and water if they are needed. Remember, during the holidays your cat needs your special attention, because this period is a stressful time for her.

The second important step - you must constantly monitor the state of the animal and if you have the slightest disturbing symptoms - immediately contact a veterinarian. Do not worry about bothering the doctor in the holiday time: in the clinic, for sure, there is a doctor on duty, who will be waiting for his patients throughout the night, realizing how important this is.

Another aspect - calming drugs. If you have already noticed that your cat is hiding after the house parties and does not want to come out for a long time, then you need to understand, that this animal is prone to stress and needs comforting. This cat should be given some special (veterinary approved) sedation for noise, loud music and laughter of your guests did not scare her.

 

 

And, of course, you have to do everything possible to ensure a safe holiday for your pet. This includes not only air vents, which should either be closed or protected by screens. Particular attention should be paid also to:

  • candles - they should not stand in those places where the cat can suddenly appear and get burned;
  • Christmas decorations and "rain" - all cats just love to chew small shiny objects, and it can bring them an irreparable harm: a cat can not spit out the "rain" that got into the cat's tongue and she will be forced to swallow it, which can cause a bowel obstruction or injure the stomach;
  • open plates of food: cats can not successfully digest nearly all the dishes from festive table - there is always too much fat and spices, and stealing some of your meals, your favorite cat is at a great risk to get to the hospital next day with a serious poisoning;
  • alcoholic beverages - some cats can independently try some champagne, and some suffer from the fact that the owners are literally forcing their cats to drink. This should not happen in any case!  With cats alcohol is acting as an anesthetic, impacting negatively on the work of the entire nervous system, and the animal is getting used to such "doping" very quickly.

The last two points are particularly relevant, because very often after the holidays cats are treated in veterinarian hospitals from the liver failure and acute pancreatitis. Also frequent are: diarrhea, vomiting and these diseases can occur not immediately, but after a few weeks after the house party. It is very difficult to treat these diseases in animals and it is taking a very long time, so try to secure your cat - do not let her to eat or drink from your table. And for sure you must never force a cat to eat fat and spicy food.

 

One party for everybody!

 

These severe restrictions yet do not mean that the cat can not be a little "spoiled" during the holidays. On the contrary, the holiday must be shared, so it is not only possible but even necessary to bring some gifts for your darling pet! Here will perfectly serve a box with your cat's most favorite food or some special cat treats. Just do not overfeed the animal with sweet, fatty, or spice-containing products.

The best option - a special cat food or food that the cat had already eaten, and she loves it (yogurt, cheese, piece of meat). And, of course, do not forget to pet your cat and find some time to talk with her, even when you are very busy with your guests. Your attention will help her to adapt to the stressful situations during the celebration and to enjoy the holidays without compromising with her health!
