Kennel syndrome - Critical periods: at the right time, in the right place

The prdogs-kennelocess of behavioral programs development in the early stages of mammals's life have some certain sensitive periods - in these moments animals are most susceptible to the environmental signals. In these moments it is possible to start a certain behavioral programs, to develop the innate behaviors, to train the life skills, to imprint the desired images.

The experience, that is gained in the first months of life, will determine later the nature and the behavior of the dog, it's intelligence and adaptive skills. If you do not give your puppy an opportunity to get the necessary learning experience during these periods, do not let him try using his ancestral abilities, he may find himself in a situation of the "missed time". For the first time confronted with the outside world at an older age, the dog will not be able to learn it with the same ease, as it is available to the small puppies in their "sensitive state". For this reason, these periods have a second name - "critical". And for dogs, they are limited mainly, with the first half a year of the animal's life.

One of the critical periods - the period of socialization - is known to many breeders as a sign of the rule that a puppy should definitely make contact with other dogs before he is 3 months old. For example, let's remember a quarantine for vaccinated dogs, well-known for the sad consequences - some puppies were first brought out at almost 5-6 months, when the basic behavior programs are almost completed. As a result, often there was received the "Mowgli-dog", that is not only unable to properly communicate with relatives, but also can not respond adequately to the urban environment, because we have omitted the sensitive periods of development of the basic forms of behavior.

At the heart of a dog's behavior, which is often amazing and touching for us, is a complex "building" of a psycho-biological processes. After birth, the puppy continues the development of his nervous system, and the maturation of his brain structures, so the formation of behavior takes place in several stages and is strictly subjected to the plan, that is "written" in the genes. At each stage under the influence of the environment, a certain parts of the young dog's brain are being completed.

If we imagine that the general plan of this kind of construction is determined by genes, and the building material is supplied by the nervous system, than the builders here would be the incentives of the world. And if they will not be in the right place at the right time, the building will be uncompleted or even totally destroyed - the brain will be unfinished!
