Kennel syndrome - Poverty is not a crime?

Violations of talone-doghe right course of the dog's development may occur in different circumstances - in a large suburban kennel, and in a small city apartment. Beneficial effects, that environment has on the puppy may by limited by the impoverished conditions, which in future will cause many behavioral disorders in the adult dog, that is finding itself in a slightly different environment, getting to the new owners.

Which conditions should be considered to be depleted?

If you start with the first month of the puppy's life, the only version of the normal conditions - is the presence of his mother. Numerous experiments on different species of mammals have shown that all most important external factors necessary for the normal development of the infant, are given by his mother through the direct contact and breast feeding. In the first month of the dog's life, the stimulation from the mother and the ability to suck the mother's nipple, massaging it by paws, has a powerful and irreplaceable beneficial effects on the brain development and on the formation of the normal behavior of the puppy. Pros, that is getting a puppy, fed by his mother, is difficult to overestimate, comparing with an orphan and the "bottle-baby": emotional stability, self-confidence, resistance to the social competition, high intelligence and adaptive skills. The important role of a tactile contact and neonatal feeding behavior in the further development of the psyche and behavior of dogs makes us to doubt on the feasibility of artificial feeding, as it is impossible to remedy the lack of key incentives in this case.

The situmother-and-her-puppiesation, when puppies during the first few months of their lives are always staying in the cages and small fenced walking areas, should be considered depleted. Scientifically speaking, the stimulus environment in such conditions is very scarce, especially if you compare it with the actual conditions of the big city. In other words, dogs in kennels just do not have an adequate external stimuli, which could bring to life all the richness of adaptive abilities, that are incorporated in the genes of an animal.

It is believed that around the age of two months breeders should begin to familiarize their puppies with the widest possible range of external stimuli - visual, auditory, odors and tastes, because impressions gained at this age are preserved for a lifetime. For example, during this period, you can easily teach a dog to eat different kinds of dog food.

From the third month of life it is recommended to start introducing dogs of the specialized breeds (hunting, rescue) with the conditions of their future work. Otherwise, it happens that the candidates for the rescue work are having many difficulties while mastering the stairs and a fear of tunnels. Dogs bred in a poor conditions and limited in their contacts with the outside world, in general, behave less confident and are reacting painfully to any unfamiliar stimuli for almost their entire life.

The situation can be improved, when regularly (though not daily, and not for long) puppies go for a walk - even the 1.5-2 month old puppy can be sent for a little walk along with his mother. Persistent routes for such walks should be prepared in advance and it is good if they will include a variety of "adventures" for puppies. For example, overcoming of some small ditches or other obstacles, getting used to some distant noises, like trains passing away. If there is no such an opportunity for this kind of safe walking, it would be useful to equip the walking area for puppies with a variety of interior and puppy toys, and possibly change them from time to time. For this purpose, you can even use the cardboard boxes. Any well-dosed novelty is useful for the development of the psyche and active behavior of the dog.

Organizing the environment for puppies in kennels, it is very important to consider (at any possible extent) the conditions in which the dogs will live with their future owners. Many dogs, that are raised up in the large kennels, are experiencing difficulties, while being taught hygiene in the apartment. Useful technique to teach your puppies to do their toilet in a certain place (or on a special diaper), of course, helps the new owner to deal with this problem in the house. Walking outside of the kennel area, not later than the age of 3 months, make it much easier for the young dog to enter the urban environment. Problems can occur if the puppy was not allowed in the right time to get acquainted with such a peculiarities of the complex and varied external world, as the noisy streets, crowds of people, running and screaming kids, large and aggressive unfamiliar dogs are, ladders, water places, roaring cars, trains, etc.
