Kennel syndrome - Are we of "one blood"?

Poverty may come from the social environment. Despite the fact that the problem of socialization for kennels does not seem prevalent, sometimes we still have to deal with the manifestations of a kennel syndrome, even in those dogs that were brought up in the urban apartments.

The living conditions of the puppies in an environment where they interact only briefly with a limited human contingent, are also affecting the ability of the dog to adapt successfully to it's future life in the family of the new owner. Socialization and development of communication skills with the social partners, must take place with the participation of not only other dogs, but also humans. The critical period of socialization (with both: a dog partner and a human partner) is limited to approximately second and third month of the dog's life (or more precisely - from 4th to 12-14th week). And at this time it is not enough to just let a little puppy to see people, he must actively communicate with them, this is giving him the opportunity to realize his unique ability to understand human behavior. According to the latest scientific data, the dog seems to have an innate ability to understand facial expressions and gestures of people, which was never observed, for example, in the tame cubs. And, as we have seen, even the innate behavioral programs need an adequate external stimulation - only then the genetic heritage of species will be revealed and manifested in such behavior, which is taken to explain the exceptional mind of the dog.

Observational breeders probably noticed that somewhere in the beginning of the second month of life, puppies suddenly start to show a particular interest to people as a partners, learn to look carefully at the face, hands and they begin to actively support games with people and watch their actions with interest. Some even say that at this time they begin to notice a "sensible glance" in their puppies. In this exactly period, you can lay the foundation for a good contact with the future owner of the dog, playing with the puppies at least for a few minutes a day, or ... miss this opportunity, limit the world of your puppies to the cage cubicle in the apartment or the empty walking area on your back yard.

Of course, it is easier to clean the empty areas, than the equipped ones, of course, the staff never have enough time to clean everything and feed everyone - where to find the time to play with the puppies! Many zoos were facing the same choice about 30 years ago. It was much easier to keep animals in the small cells overlaid with ceramic tiles, where you can quickly restore almost sterile cleanliness. But the behavior of animals, living in such conditions, did not look natural, and finally the administrations of those zoos made a decision - it's worth it. Time spent on cleaning the large complex cages, equipped according to the needs of animals (including psychological), were acquitted. A special time, spent on communication, training or games with animals, paid for itself. As a result there was received - more spectacular and interesting to the visitors - normal behavior of animals, which was also indicative of their mental development.
